Lt. Commander Susan Ivanova
For Halloween, 2001, I built the Babylon 5 uniform for Lt. Commander Susan Ivanova, Season 3. This was a very ambitious costume for me, I had never tackled a military uniform before, but I am pleased with it. Especially since, at the time, Babylon 5 was not available on DVD, the reruns on TV were of the wrong season (different uniforms) and I could only find 2 pictures online of this particular uniform, both from the front. I'd like to re-build it someday, now that I have a better reference for it on DVD.

The jacket is based on a Civil War Southern Officer pattern, with the overflap cut on a diagonal and the innerflap covered in the lighter blue fabric. I used bias tape for all the trim. The collar tabs and Lt. bar are cut of very thin balsa wood and covered in a paper-like metal sheet.
I couldn't find any images of the sides of the uniform at the time, so I had to guess about the patches. I basically took the only "patches" or logos I could find online and printed them onto fabric paper, then ironed them on with that fix-a-hem stuff.
The flash washed out this patch
You can see the patch a little better here, but the whole image is too dark since I turned off the flash. I had a crappy camera back then, but it was digital, which was rare at the time.
The uniform jacket again. The pants are basic black trouser pants, so not too many pictures of them.
