The InnKeeper has always had strong opinions and a strong preference for "breaking up as friendly exes", and has written about it before. But in 2013, the InnKeeper attended Atlanta Poly Weekend and shared a ride, a room, and co-presented with her ex-sweetie, Sterling Bates. The fact of our natural transition to friends after the breakup prompted many conversations, all weekend long, about breakup skills. While our culture neglects to teach good relationship skills, it seems to actively encourage bad breakup skills, and the general consensus of the conference was that good breakup skills was a subject that really needed to be addressed.

The Innkeeper and former sweetie were implored to collaborate on something to teach these badly needed skills. So in 2014, we teamed up for APW once again and put together a panel on breakup skills that would increase the chances of friendly breakups. The goal is not to make everyone become friends with their exes, but to manage our own individual behaviour so that we behave in friendly manners during inherently difficult situations, regardless of the actual outcome or resulting relationship structure post-breakup.

The InnKeeper and her ex-partner are available to present this and other presentations at your event or organization. It can be tailored specifically to your event and your expected audience and does not need to address polyamory specifically. Breaking up is a universal experience and all relationships, even non-romantic ones, can benefit from good breakup skills. Please contact The InnKeeper to schedule a presentation.
